What's the Point? It's Good News Wednesday!

So, do you think your life sucks? I think this guy might argue with you about that.

Wouldn't it be nice if we could all be happy and get along?

I mean really, what's the point of this? Is that what you're asking? If so, let me try to explain......

Someone here on Newsvine decided after reading all the bile before during and even after the election (after? Why? Don't tell me it's the right, don't tell me it's the left - it's people that can't let go of the 'I'm right and you're wrong' mentality that has dominated this site since well before the elections) decided it was time to bring on some good news, some uplifting stories, some articles and seeds that show that life is not all dark and dank, the world hasn't ended as so many have predicted. We have so many things to be happy about, to be thankful for and share with others.

Well, this person decided that it was time to try to make a dent in the negativity that is on the Top News ticker on the front page by declaring Wednesdays 'Good News Wednesday' and publishing only upbeat articles on that day. She enlisted several of us-based on reading our articles and comments, she realized we felt the same way as she does. After contacting a bunch of us, we all agreed to contribute articles. This is week 4 of the project and I've been asked to write the kick-off article for this weeks Wednesday (Dec 10th). It's a loosely organized group and there is no membership requirement. I think Azsky13 said it best (and I believe plagarism is the sincerest form of flattery):

"The authors who have agreed to do this with me, will be posting links in the comments here as their articles are published. They will also be using the tag "good-news-wednesday." So all of the articles can also be found by searching for them using that tag.

I would also like to invite anyone else who has written a positive article and would like to participate in this effort to post a link in the comments here. We can't have enough good news these days! "

The first is a short story about a spirit set free; the second is about the sixtieth anniversary of the UN Declaration of Human Rights; and the third is the best (believe it or not). Thank you for the huge belly laugh, I needed it.

I just finished reading final papers from my art appreciation classes, 80 papers, the responses to my question'"What did you learn in this class" were amazing, they told me what they learned, what they will always remember and how much fun they had learning in my class, I must admit that I had tears of joy running down my cheeks. Many teachers have a hard time thinking they are getting through to their students, this final paper gives me the power to get up and do it all over again. If you are a teacher, try this project, it fills the empty soul.

Hey thanks everyone! I just got a bit of good news. There is no final test for this class, just the final project. That was a big relief! I wasn't sure when I would have tome to study for it.

For now I think I need a little nap and then back to coding!!! I will be so glad when this is finished!

Hey Thanks Elizabeth!

I was going to go count them, now I don't have to! I am really pleased with the efforts of everyone. I think I was able to read all of the articles yesterday, but didn't get to all of the seeds. I hope to go back and read them this weekend.

I will do the kickoff article next week. I like the idea of rotating it so it doesn't always fall to one person. As per Elizabeth's request I will go over our original intentions. I came across some questions last night from someone who had also emailed Elizabeth.

@Spikgary....post #22.4....huh? How do you do this? Is it possible with other areas as well? Maybe you should do an "article" a sort of step-by-step instruction manual for those of us who are 'novices' and don't know what the hell we're doing 90% of the time? In fact, why doesn't the Vine have some sort of "manual"? Anyway, I for one would be interested in knowing how to set this up. Thanks! :-))

TW58-I just discovered it myself. If you go up to the tagged words (in green letters under the headline), click the tag 'Good-News-Wednesday', it will take you directly to a page where all the articles tagged 'Good News Wednesday' are grouped. Above the articles, you should see a title line that says 'Good News Wednesday' Right next to the words there is a 'Watch' button. Press that and it will link you to the tag. Go to an article, but look down the sidebar, under the Authors you have on your watch list and you will see 'Tags' and any tags you are watching under that.

Like I said, I stumbled on it this morning........

Now if someone can just tell me how to be better organized around here so I can spend more time on the Vine (yup...I'm totally addicted!!!) *sheepish grinz*......but someone still has to make beds, do laundry, cook, shop, etc., etc. :D (maybe I should hire a maid, a cook, a laundress, a......) LOL

If there are particular authors you want to read, on their column click 'Add to Watchlist'. They'll be added to your left side on your screen. Same with groups.
