"NIAGARA FALLS - A city councilman frustrated with the way Niagara Tourism & Convention Corp. has spent its share of casino revenue wants to take a portion of that money back for street repair.
Councilman Sam Fruscione said Wednesday that he plans to ask lawmakers to rewrite a state law that gives the countywide tourism promotion and marketing agency a cut of local casino dollars.
"It's a bad economy, and we have a city that has deplorable streets," Fruscione said. "We have to do this."
But John Percy, president of the agency, said that such a move would be a detriment to efforts to boost tourism in recent years. "
------
I have worked with the Niagara Tourism and Convention Corp. on several occaisions-they do bring in the business, that is much needed in this area that has been economically depressed for a long time.
The politicians in Niagara Falls need to start trying to do what's best for the city instead of carrying out these petty grievances and spending time figuring out how to screw some other agency over.
