RAMSTEIN AIR BASE, Germany (AFNS) -- Does a free haircut sound like a good deal? Perhaps it sounds even better when a free haircut raises awareness and money to combat cancer in children.

Ninety-eight people volunteered to give up their locks to participate in the first St. Baldrick's event at Donnelly Park here June 26. The hair-raising experience tallied $6,645 for charity at the end of the day.

The event was organized by 3-year-old Josephine Beardsley's parents, Heike and Tech. Sgt. Timothy Beardsley, with the 86th Maintenance Squadron.

It also marked the second anniversary of Josephine's diagnosis with Leukemia.

Nice to see these folks helping those in need and benifitting cancer research.

Spikegary, in this heat, they should have made a million $'s. Glad to hear this info is getting out. Easy to forget as we parents get so busy. Also, no one wants to think that this is happening to MY child! My Daughter had bruises! It took someone else to suggest I see a Doctor. I just figured she was active and got bumped playing. It wasn't a bad thing! Thank goodness.

Thanks for the info. Do they do this often? Where can this Group get contacted?

C&G, Hi! These folks are at Ramstein Air Base in Germany. Not sure how to contact them, though I know they did this locally when a friend's kid had Ewings Sarcoma. Probably a contact through the American Cancer Society. I googled American Cancer Society Hair Donation and came up with several hits.
